How to Give an Acceptance Speech
(All five Oscar nominees are featured)
And the Oscar goes to…..Jane/John Doe.
(Wild Applause)
“What an honor. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Before anything else, everyone please give a huge round of applause to the people that make this magical night occur….
The audience.
(Long Pause)
And on this night, I thank my family, cast mates, friends, colleagues and the Academy, but above all….the audiences around the world.
Without the audience there would be no Oscars, no Academy and no industry.
Without fans waiting on line for hours to see our productions none of this would exist.
Without people spending not only their hard earned money, but even more precious, their personal time, watching us work, we wouldn’t be here.
The people who wait for hours and hours just to get a glimpse of the red carpet.
The fans that spend countless hours blogging and buying publications about our every career move.
The families who allow us into their very personal world and spend two hours with us.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
You are the reason I do what I do, and you are the reason I am able to do what I love.
And for that I am eternally grateful.”
There should be a placard upon entrance that states “Remember Your Audience!”
The big winner last night was “Mr. B” Gregg Brienberg and the PS 22 Chorus - just amazing stage presence; it was a shame that the performance did not occur earlier in the evening. In terms of acceptance speeches, Megan Mylan’s speech from two years ago is still a great model for future winners.
